Telephone Typewriter (TTY)

TTY

For some it may be a new symbol. For others, it identifies a freedom. Looking at it, it kind of looks like a typewriter and it also looks sort of like a telephone. And that is exactly what it is. A combination of both so that a person who is deaf, hard of hearing or speech impaired can make a phone call.

It is called a Telephone Typewriter (TTY) or Teleccomunications Device for the Deaf (TDD). It is a wonderful device that is easy to operate and opens up the world of telephone communication to many.

We hope that as people become more aware of TTY's that we will be able to indicate them present at businesses and organizations. Next year telephone service will be indicated as partially accessible if it does have a TTY.

Signing Hands

With these signing hands,
In this cold and silent world,
Bringing new freedom.
